About InstaScan AI

InstaScan AI is a free web app that reads the text in your images and PDFs. It runs in your web browser, with no account or sign-up needed.

What it does

  • Scan and extract: recognizes printed text in photos, screenshots, scans and PDF pages, in English and 21 other languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali.
  • Smart search: searches the text of all your files at once, finds duplicate or matching images, and finds images from a short description.
  • Translate: translates the recognized text between English and Indian languages.
  • Export: copy the text, or download it as TXT, a searchable PDF, JSON, TSV or hOCR.

How InstaScan AI uses your Google data

  • Google sign-in is optional. It is used only when you click Google Drive to open a file from your Drive.
  • The app requests only the drive.file permission. With it, InstaScan AI can open only the files you choose in the Google file picker. It cannot see or change anything else in your Drive.
  • The files you pick download straight from Google Drive into your browser, where the text is recognized. They are not uploaded to, stored on or shared with any server of ours.
  • InstaScan AI never modifies or deletes your Drive files. You can remove its access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • InstaScan AI's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your privacy

  • Recognition, search and image matching run on your device. Your files never leave your browser.
  • Text is sent out only if you click Translate online; it then goes to the MyMemory translation service.
  • No ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies.

About us

InstaScan AI is a free, open-source web tool that reads the text in images and PDFs, makes it searchable and translates it between English and Indian languages. It is an independent project by bharathdrive-ai, built to make information in photos, scans and documents easier to find and use.

Everything runs in your web browser. There is no account to create, no subscription and no advertising.

Disclaimer

  • Accuracy is not guaranteed. Text is recognized automatically and may contain errors, especially with handwriting, blurry photos, complex layouts or some Indian scripts. Always check important text against the original.
  • Translations are machine-generated. They are approximate and can change the meaning. Do not rely on them for legal, medical, financial or other important decisions without checking with a qualified person.
  • Search results are suggestions. Image and description matches are approximate and may miss or wrongly include images.
  • Your files stay on your device. Recognition, search and image matching run in your browser, and your files are not uploaded. Only if you click Translate online is the recognized text sent to the third-party MyMemory service. See the privacy policy.
  • Provided "as is". InstaScan AI is offered without warranty of any kind. You use it at your own risk, and its developer is not liable for any loss or damage that results from using it or relying on its output.
  • Trademarks. Google and Google Drive are trademarks of Google LLC. InstaScan AI is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Google.
